What About An External Multi-Touch Trackpad For a Mac

I used to be a big fan of ergonomic keyboards (and I still am). But I am an even bigger fan of the multi-touch trackpad. I have even extended it by using MultiClutch (I know the link looks funny, but that’s the page title, I promise). MultiClutch allows you to extend the swiping and pinching of fingers to extend to other applications and key combinations (both locally and globally). This means that it is so much a part of my daily productivity that I have had to make due without an ergonomic keyboard.

If someone knows about an external multi-touch trackpad (either wireless or USB) that supports 1,2,3 and 4 finger multi-touch, please let me know. And if one doesn’t exist, please let Apple know :). Ultimately what I would like my “at home” setup to be is a wireless ergonomic keyboard along with a wireless ergonomic multi-touch trackpad.

I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on this.

Just use your iphone as a touchpad! Glass and LCD, much better than a MacBook Pro.

You could even display Growl notifications on it… 😉

@Zatara Actually, it would be pretty cool if the iPhone could act as a Bluetooth touchpad mouse. Have you considered writing an app to do that?

Found this old thread while looking for the same thing. That product appears to be Windows-only. 6 months later, there still doesn't appear to be such a device for Macs. I, too, use an ergonomic keyboard and trackpad as my primary input. Apple has it's MagicMouse, but that's not what I want. There is one listed on Apple's site, but all but one of the posted reviews say it's a very poorly-performing, cheap-feeling product.

A bit big, but I've heard good things about this: http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Technology-CTT460-B

but it's not genuine multi-touch, dude. read the reviews. does not support 3- or 4-finger gestures, nor drag lock.

I think a genuine multitouch external trackpad will never be possible by another company that Apple because they have all the patents of the multitouch, the glass trackpad, and all other things like that. And Apple always win in court, if I was a company, I will not take the risk… But probably Apple will get out a external trackpad sometime because the Apple World will be all touchable since 2013.
